Hi my name is Helava and I'm going to talk about my writing with Team Alison . I did it all about how to draw a tabby cats . Alison's Group -  Siena ,William and me worked very hard to sound out words, write neatly and straight.

Library and Kyla

Every Monday we go to the library and get some books out for the week. At the moment am reading - Roald Dahl - The Twist - at the moment am on the first chapter and its quiet funny,there is a line that reads .... I will get you for this shouted Mrs Twit (that is her name)....she was purple with rage and slashing Nom nom air ... If you want to read more you can get it out not just at our library but a local one near you. Reading is fun and I love it .by Kyla the crazy book girl!!!!!!

Getting A Puppy!!!

21/9/15 Yesterday I went to see a puppy, her name was Elsa. Mum liked her so much that she decided to take her to the next level... The next level is getting the council to come and inspect our property to see if our house is dog friendly on thursday! The day before we are getting a new fence made to keep the puppy in the property.

Passion Project By Rita And Siena

Passion Project has started in our class - it is about being in charge of our own learning. We have decided to focus on keeping primary school friends. At school we made a piñata as a follow up reading activity.

I decided to make a cat.

First I got a small box and stuffing.

I opened the box and stuffed the 

stuffing inside the box.

Then I put tape on the outside of the box.

I put PVA glue on the box

and put news paper on top.

When it dried I painted it I panted white.

When that dried I added detail like eyes 

and a mouth.

That is how I made my pinnate.

The golden temple

Once there was a golden temple that was very dangerous. 100 million years ago every single villain was trying to get the golden nuts but they couldn't. But some squirrels decided to go inside the temple. When the squirrels where at the golden temple lots of canons were shooting at the squirrels. The squirrels found a door luckily. The first room had a maze the squirrels just made it from the maze. the next room had a laser field. The squirrels used their jet packs to get past the lasers. In the last room there was the golden nuts. The squirrels grabbed them and went back to there villige and showed them to their boss. THE END

Wind power is good and bad.

There is a debate about if wind power is good or bad.

Some people think that wind power is bad for the environment and some people think it saves natural resources.

Wind turbines use steel which uses up natural resources but other ways cause pollution  so people argue about it.

New Zealand is a ideal place for wind turbines because it is in the roaring forties. 

Much of New Zealand lies in the middle of the best spot for wind turbines.

Some people think wind turbines block views some people think it adds to the view what do you think?

On Friday we went on a school trip to Kelly taltons.
It was really fun, my three favourite things were the penguins, the sting ray feeding and the turtles.
My parent helper was Vinnie and in my group was Enzo, Kyla and Jasmin and Me.
In t.t.t.[the tunnel tank]I saw lots of sharks but I can only name two, thresher and Woebegone  the Woebegone is pretty unknown it is a camouflage shark.
We got to learn about how pollution got into the sea.
We went on a really boring baby play ground.

Water Pollution.

Water pollution is extremely important,in a very bad way.

Water pollution is killing all sorts of marina life like; Fish,Killer whales, and many,many more sea life!

Water pollution is not something to think about only on world ''oceans day",or when yet another piece of debris from 2011 tsunami washes up on distance shores,it's pervasive. (That means everywhere).


Sometimes garbage in our communities end up in our oceans and... join the great junk pile in the middle of the pacific ocean!

The reason of the 'Great Pacific Garbage Patch' is that the Pacific oceans,ocean Gyre is the biggest than any other ocean Gyre.

Ocean Gyres are regions of the oceans where water is rotates in a large circular pattern.

The five major ocean Gyres are;The North Pacific,North Atlantic,Indian Ocean,South Atlantic,and South Pacific!

Soccer last Friday

Last Friday Room 3 had soccer with Ben.

He taught us how to kick the balls.  We also played a lot of fun games that taught us soccer skills.

We played:

Octopus, Toy Story, Stuck in the mud and soccer (the actual game).

We had so much fun.

Global Warming By Frank

Global warming is a very big problem for the environment as it causes sea levels to rise and many other things.

Global warming is caused by cars.  Burning trash that can't be used again and factories let out co2.  Even animals play a part.

When co2 and methane go up into the sky they create a barrier that keeps the heat in the Earth, which makes the Earth heat up.

The effect of Global warming is devastating! It heats up the ocean and coral reefs die because the temperature rises and fish have to find new food.  

The polar ice caps have a lot of water in them and if they melt it will make the ocean level rise and will flood habitats.

We can stop this! We can use our bikes more often and recycle.  If we do this global warming will end.

I hope we can end Global warming.

The Arctic is changing because of us!

By 2040 all of the Arctic glaciers will be water and if that happens, not only will habitats be destroyed, there will be massive floods.

Poor, poor, poor polar bears! Their homes will be destroyed.  You might be wondering why the Arctic is going to disappear and it's not a magician doing it!  It's YOU!

This disaster is caused by: carbon emissions, burning landfills and nuclear disposal.

You might be thinking how much this is effecting?

Well... factories are putting too much carbon dioxide in the air also people are cutting down too many trees!

If carbon dioxide gets into our atmosphere and traps the heat in then the glaciers will melt faster.  If we keep cutting down trees and not replace them then trees won't be able to breathe in the carbon dioxide!

So save our Arctic glaciers!

This week we have been learning a new strategy (it's pretty tricky ) say the question was 21+ something = 34. we would split it into groups ... next we take we take the first number (which ours is 21 ) And we take our 21 and + 9=30.  We take it up to 30 because that's a tidy number.  Tidy numbers end in 0)  +4 that we get from our 34.

Salt water by Nora

Salt water habitats are places where sea craters live the ocean.

The sunlit zone is the the is the top layer of the ocean. There is enough light to let plants to grow.

The twilight zone is the one after the sunlit zone and it's the 2nd biggest place in the ocean. Lots of animals live there.

The midnight zone is the deepest part in the ocean and not many animals survive there.  Some animals have special ways to survive.

We should take care of the ocean and some people are over fishing.

Did you know there  are different zones in the ocean?

There is a sunlight zone it's the top zone. It's where a few fish live like dolphins, turtles and sometimes stingrays.

There is a twilight zone and that is where the sperm whales live. The twilight zone is in the middle of the ocean and it goes all the way across the ocean.

There is another zone and it's the midnight zone. It's right at the bottom and it's the darkest part of the ocean. There is fish that glows. There isn't much sea creatures because they can't see. That's why they glow.

Did you know that fish that live in the ocean and if you put fish that used to be in the ocean into fresh water they won't live. Thats why you need to be careful.

Did you know that the water from your house doesn't go to the ocean? it goes to the water treatment and they treat it. 

Do you know that everything that goes down The drain goes out to the ocean and that's why you should be careful to not put anything down the drain because it goes to the ocean.

If you go fishing in the ocean you can only get a certain number of fish and you have a certain size.

Saltwater habitats by James

Saltwater habitats are in the ocean and were there are three zones. It is a very, very salty place but the creatures in the ocean don't care.

The sunlit zone is the top part of the ocean. It is the smallest zone in the ocean. It has the most sea animals in the part.

The twilight zone is under the sunlit zone. Sperm whales, dolphins and sharks also swordfish can stay between the sunlit zone and the twilight zones. Cuttlefish live in the twilight zone to.

The midnight zone is the deepest part of the ocean seems it is so dark parts of the sea animals glow up. Like dumbo octopus and anglerfish and the big mouthed fang tooth and the vampire squid,tube worms and finally the glow in the dark jelly fish.

Did you know that fish don't get your dirty water that comes from your house it gets cleaned in the water treatment station but it does go straight to the ocean when it goes down a drain.

today we are going to be talking about the most easy times tables strategy ever.                                                                                                                                                                                          ok here we go so we're learning 6 times 9=.                                                                  so 6 times 5 = 30 and 6 times 4 = 24 and 24 +30= 54                                                                yay we completed it                                                                                                                                  and if you didn't get that i'll show you 1 more and you will probably get the strategy by the end of the day you will get it I promise you WILL get it.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            ok what's 6 times 5, well 6 times 5 = 30 witch is the same so it = 30 and 5 times 5 = 25 + 5 = 30                                                                                                                                                                   THE END

Why is it important to protect freshwater habitats?

Ocean habitats are where marine life live. Ocean habitats are endangered by human pollution.

There are 3 different zones in the ocean where marine life live.  The first zone is the sunlit.  The sunlit zone is at the top of the sea, where most marine life live.  

Next is the twilight zone.  The twilight zone is under the sunlit zone so there isn't much sun.

Finally it is the midnight zone.  It is very dark and cold there as it is the bottom of the ocean.

 Thursday 7th may                                  Wonderful water                                                                                                                                                                                                Every living thing needs water.If we didn't have water we wouldn't be able to shower, bath, wash hands or cook some kinds of food.

The scientific name of water is H2O H stands for hydrogen atoms, o stands for oxygen atoms and 2 is because there is 2 oxygen atoms in a molecule. Molecules are what water is made up of.You can only see molecules with microscopes. This is what molecules look like under a microscope.

                                                                               When water gets below     

 zero degrees it will freeze and become ice. The gases are cloud and the liquid is the stuff that we drink. 70 percent of the Earth is covered in water but most of that is salt water. 4 percent of it isn't salt water and 2 percent of it is ice. Some of the fresh water is polluted so we can't even use that

I think that people shouldn't waste water.

In world war 1 nine million people were killed,twenty three million more were wounded.

World war 1 started in June twenty eighth 1914.The person how started world war 1 was A.F.Ferdinand.

Germany forced Mexico to join the war and in return they would help take over a bunch of South 

Western states.

Over 3000 of Britons motor vehicles were turned into ambulances and used on the  Western front.Some of the London's buses became ambulance.

500,000 pigeons were regularly dropped into enemy lines by parachute, and sent back with messages.

During world war 1, dogs were used to carry messages in capsules attached to there body.

I wonder if we will have war again?

Corban Art Centre BY Jasmin

On Friday we went to Corbans Art Centre for a school trip.We learnt who Corban was and that before it was an art centre it was a winery! 

It looks like a a very old factory,towering above the other buildings like a sky scraper. But inside it looks as welcoming as a warm fire.

At the art centre we made some awesome portraits.First, we mixed some colours and painted our boards,(they were made of wood) then we gave them to the hair salon people who dried them with hair dryers! 

I wonder if Corban had a good life.💜

Maths

We have been learning a new strategy.  It is called place value. It's pretty hard because you have to add numbers together. You have to use your brain a lot because you have to add two numbers together because that is how it's works.

First you add the first two numbers together and then you add the last two numbers together and then it tells you the answer. We are going to give you  an example 37 + 42 = ? 30 + 40 =70 then add the ones 7+2=9 so it =79

Firstly, you have to get the number that you want to solve and double it! Hurrah! Then you take the last number off! And then, you show it to your teacher and say you think you have got it right!
