Room 7 is learning about what makes our body work.
Today we learnt about the Food Pyramid. It is made up of 4 main groups - Carbohydrates (pasta, rice, cereals & bread), vitamins & minerals (fruit & vegetables), proteins (chicken, fish, cheese & eggs) and fats.
We are also collecting pictures of food at home and bringing them to school.
We are also learning how to keep move our bodies and keep them fit!

Beans Update & Answering Questions
Otalani - "Are you going to eat the beans"?
Yes we are going to eat the beans. We hope they taste super glamorous.
Lynda - "Will you use butter to eat them or just have them raw"?
We will try them raw. But some kids prefer not to eat them raw. Zephyr says "I going to cook them at home and have them for dinner".
Andrea - "What else do you need for them to grow"?
We need love, songs and karakia, soil, water, sun light and air.
Jacqui - "What is your bean song"?
Also some people have sung 'fireman'
Beans, beans, beans ...
These are our plants. We planted them last week.
They are beans. Lots of them are small and some of them are big.
They have been growing for a week and a half.
They have been in pots with soil and seeds pushed in.
They have grown big. We have been putting them outside and watering them every day.

Plants, plants, plants. these are the beans that we planted on Monday last week.
First we wrote our name on our stick.
Then Bryan handed the pot out and filled our pots with soil.
We got our fingers out and pushed seeds into the soil.
We learnt that plants need sun and water to grow.

Planting Beans
Today we planted Climbing Kentucky Beans.
First we put soil into our groups pot.
Then we pushed our seeds into the soil. It made a lot of mess!
Next, we said a little karakia and sang a song to our beans.
Finally we watered them!
We can't wait to see what happens.
Here is what we wonder about our beans...
*Will they taste nice or bitter?
*Will they grow to the sky?
*Will they grow berries?
*Will they grow short or tall?
*Will they grow in any season?
*Will they grow olives?
*Will they grow vegetables?
*Will they grow fruit?
*Will they grow beans?

Crazy, crazy, crazy cat. Simons cat danced on the fence. She pooped in my garden. I felt happy because my brother and sister didn't even notice it!

Our Class Leaders.
Today during writing time our class leaders introduced themselves.
They did a fabulous kart wheel into the classroom. Our eyes went shiny like a diamond.
Their gorgeous names are Isaia, Nami and Maddy.
We think they are awesome because they are colourful, bright role models.

What is Waitangi Day?

The Treaty was signed after the declaration of independence by northern Maori Chiefs and British Crown Representatives in 1835.
The signing of the Waitangi Treaty gave the British sovereignty while guaranteeing Maori land rights. The British ruled colony of New South Wales (Australia) initially controlled New Zealand from the early 1800's until 1840 when New Zealand became a separate entity.
Many people consider the Treaty to be the foundation of modern New Zealand society. As a result, Waitangi Day has been a national holiday in New Zealand since 1974.
